My round holes are not coming round

Hello, Im trying to figure some teething problems with my new workbee and i cant get my head around why a round hole wont machine out round, it is slightly oval. I have machine the base level but the next step of putting holes in the base for pegs and things isnt turning out that great. i have just tightened the wheels on the extrusions just a bit to see if that helped but i cant see anything else that may be loose. Thanks

What is the purpose of the Calibration Endmill?

Hi,

Apologies if this is really obvious. I ordered the Workbee Z1 + , which has been received and is in full working order. I have a query on a bit I received with it called a Calibration Endmill 0.006" x 1.4" x 2.2" x 30 deg. I'm not sure of the purpose of this endmill. Is it just a 30 deg v bit for carving or does it have some other purpose that I am unaware of.

Thanks

Adjusting eccentric spacers on Y-axis after assembly complete?

Hi everyone.

I’ve been using my new Workbee Z1 for a few days now and just noticed only 2 top wheels on the left Y-carriage are rotating when travelling up & down the (left) Y-axis extrusion. The other top 2 wheels are not making contact/rotating nor are all 4 bottom wheels. I assume I just need to tighten up/adjust the eccentric spacers but these are positioned on the bottom pair of wheels where there is no room to get my hand & the (tiny) spanner on to the spacers between the underside of the carriage and the bench the machine is attached to. Any advice? Many thanks in advance. Best. Andy

I can’t get Extrusion B to screw up with the second bolt; the hole in the Y carriage and a threaded hole in extrusion do not match at one end; if I reverse extrusion B, it does work, but then I have a problem with the other Y carriage and get the same problem, this would point to Extrusion B being wrong.
Y plate wheel adjustment.

Has anyone tried to adjust the eccentric nuts on the “Y” plates after completing their build.with spoil board fitted and frame fixed to table, even with a ground down skinny spanner it is virtually impossible. Even if you are lucky enough to get the wheel tensions correct during assembly, they will need adjustment eventually. Surely it would make it a lot easier if the eccentric nuts were fitted to the top wheels of the Y plate assembly and then any adjustments could be made with ease. I cannot see what difference this would make mechanically to the operation of the workbee. I really don’t want to have to remove my spoil board and detach frame from my table to complete what could be a 10 minute job.

First couple of passes not engaging with material

Hi - when I upload a job, the first couple of passes are often not engaging with the material surface I’d like to cut. I’m trying to just cut out some basic clamps from a sheet of MDF wood.

I’ve designed the pieces using VCarve Pro; I’ve then used a touch probe in the bottom left corner of the material, and then clicked ‘Go to work Zero’; the end mill then becomes flush with the surface/corner of the material I’m cutting. No issues there.

When I then go to run the job, the machine will then begin by outlining the shapes I’m trying to cut - BUT 5mm+ ABOVE the material itself.

The result is that the shapes are then not cut out from the rest of the board.

I’d be grateful for some advice here.

Have I inputted the wrong figures at some point while designing the clamps in VCarve?

Have I not got the router/endmill installed correctly? Is there some other issue with the hardware?

Thank you

Changing z during job

Say I’ve started my job and find that it’s skimming just above the surface of the wood. Is it possible to lower the z value by increments during the job until I hear it engage with the surface and then stop and return to the start of the job with the new z value?

crude contours after finishing pass

I have been trying to cut a 3D head using a Machine Relief toolpath in Carveco software. I carried out the roughing cut (1/4" ball end) and then the finishing cut (1/16" ball end). The end result was far from satisfactory as it still has very pronounced ridges/contours and lost much of the detail of the original model (not like the smooth examples I see in tutorials). It would seem to me that further sanding would just make it lose it's form altogether. So my questions are:

1 What is the standard procedure here? Is there a particular tool I can use to get such an intricate surface smooth?

2 As one needs to change router bits in this procedure - what is the standard way of making the z values match (as one may protrude from the collet more). I have a corner probe but it seems a bit erratic.

Than you,

Not cutting square/flat bottom

Hi Guys,

I’m new to the world of cnc and have got a slight issue with my newly built workbee. I noticed when flatterning the bed that it wasn’t cutting true, eg, if I put it in a raster pattern (the start at centre and do a sqaure snail shell outward), where the cnc changed direction there would be a small ridge, so you would have 4 ridges that would go from the centre to the corners of the waste board. The worst one being bottom left if looking from above. If I tried a back and forth in the X direction, there is a very slight wedge left, thickest towards the front of the machine. If I lower the machine down to a spirit level and nudge close it I can see ever such a difference in distance in a 25mm diamter cutter from one side to the other (maybe less that 0.5mm).

I’ve just tried to cut a circle 70mm, 0.5 mm per pass, in some offcut oak, and this is the result. Spiral up cut bit from the ooznest kit, makita router, the center feels slightly domed up.

I’m not really sure where to start looking, I’ve tried the X/Y/Z wheels on the beams to check they are gripping etc. Any other photos or info I’m happy to provide.

Cheers,
