Feeds & speeds for 1/8" Square End 2 Flute Up Cut in aluminium

Hi,

We are running a WorkBee Z1+ CNC with a Duet 2 Ethernet (RepRapFirmware 3.3) and are looking for recommended feeds & speeds for aluminium using the following tool:

Tool type: End Mill
Units: inches
Diameter (D): 0.125 inches
No. Flutes: 2
Tool: 1/8" Square End, 2 Flute, Up Cut

Material: Aluminium plate, 5 mm thick
Spindle: WorkBee Router Head (manual dial 1–6, approx. 13,000–33,000 RPM)
CAM: Vectric VCarve

Below is the exact parameter order as shown in VCarve, and we would appreciate confirmation or correction of suitable values for aluminium on a WorkBee:

Cutting Parameters

Pass Depth: ?

Stepover: ?

Feeds and Speeds

Spindle Speed (RPM): ?

Feed Units: inches/min

Chip Load: ?

Feed Rate (XY): ?

Plunge Rate (Z): ?

Tool Number: 1

We previously snapped a 1/8" tool and want to make sure we are running conservative but correct settings for aluminium on a belt-driven WorkBee.

Any real-world recommendations from Ooznest users would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am trying to complete the first project file on the Ooznest workbee Z1+ 1500x1000, however I cannot see the blue path in the Gcode preview viewer. I have homed my workbee as well as calibrating the touch probe.

How do I prevent unwanted Z-axis vertical 'play'?

I'm trying to face-mill a piece of aluminium and finding that the end-mill (6mm diam, horiz feed rate = 3.00mm, cut depth = 0.35mm, spindle ~ 20000 (6 on makita router) is not cutting absolutely level - i.e. at constant z with respect to X,Y position. On light finger (vertical) pressure on stationary end-mill I see that the whole Z stage rocks slightly on its supporting extrusion. I've attached video to demonstrate this. This (X aligned) extrusion seems to be nice and stable. I've checked the various screw and nuts that are visible/accessible and all these seem tight. Please can you assist?
