Error 9 in YAT

Hi there,

I am trying to connect the controller of my mashine to my laptop. When I followed the manual, at the end of step "1. Connecting your Controller via USB - Windows" I encountered the Error 9 after typing M115 into YAT.

But the USB connection is valid, I selected the right port and right before this step, the Terminal form was filled with the correct information.

Maybe I missed something, but I also double checked it. Sorry I'm quite new to this topic.

thanks!

Z axis suddenly dropping catastrophically!

We've suddenly had this issue three times in the last few days. Midway through a cut, the z axis suddenly drops to its limit. It's happened at different points on the same program, so we think it's an issue machine side, not in the gcode. Anyone encounter this issue before, or able to offer any suggestions as to where to start fixing it? My first action will be to deep clean the machine, check the tightness of everything etc.

3D Model Files Available for download?

I noticed while building my new WorkBee, there are a few 3d printed parts used ie the duet controller case, stepper motor end caps, limit switch mount, Mafell mounts etc and was hoping in the spirit of open source, I could download the 3d model files used?, so I could print replacements if needed, perhaps modify to accommodate other thoughts and ideas, or simply to make those from a different colour?

Cheers

Stand alone CAM options? Browser based?

Hi, I use Shaper 3d on my iPad for my 3D design and I’m looking for a CAM software but the recommended VCarve and Carvco don’t really match my needs and seem more focused on carving reliefs and pretty pictures. Having the post processors for workbee backed in is nice though.

I’ll be specifically cutting carbon composite sheet material 99% of the time and may eventually cut some tooling block for moulds or bucks. I have previously and extensively used BobCAM on a machine at work (a CNC-Step High-Z) so I’m familiar with CAM and looking for something more in that vein. But not that cost!

A browser based CAM package would be my preference then I don’t have to use a PC at all but i know the chances are slim.

[edit] I’ve been playing with OpenBuilds CAM but found that it works in a PC browser but not an iPad. It looks like it might be GRBL only too, shame.

Any recommendations please? TIA

I bought a 750x1000 recently,(duet 2, W06623), saw it working before purchase, set it up on my laptop, I can manipulate all of the movements from the laptop, but when I attempt to send a file to cut, it comes up with "lost connection, trying to reconnect", tried a different ethernet cable, and I've tried removing the SD card out and cleaned it (although it was clean), any ideas please?

Tablet, MAC or PC to control Ooziest OX

Hello!

I picked up a 500x500mm Ooznest OX and am about to recommission this CNC...

Q: Do you think any ChromeBook, Mac device or Android tablet with a USB-C port would suffice as the tethered computer?

The older USB Printer port on the OX is fine for an adapter cable to USB-C, but then again, is using Bluetooth an option if I can find a USB Print port module...

what do you recommend?

Any advice on a state-of-the-art approach to getting this original OX running on a low-cost ChromeBook, MacBook or tablet would be very much valued!

In addition to a pre-flight servicing of all bearings and lead screw, would updating the controller firmware be advised?

Is the Fusion post-processing profile for the ooziest OX available for me to emulate or copy?

Anything else?

I’m really a CNC noob, so please forgive the ignorance and omissions 😳

Thank you everybody for any advice, experience and wisdom!

Issue with 3d cutting and stepping to one side of project

I think Im getting further - and learning, still having issues though. Managed to get all 6 tool paths to cut (after a fashion) but with issues

Bits Ooznest start bit set

1 Initial 3d roughing pass seemed to work just fine

Bit 1/4 -(6.3 mm) End Mill 2 flute up cut)

2 Finishing pass had issues see the images – the 2 plaques where laid out end to end

The finishing pass seemed to worked fine for the lower right corner and side of each plaque but produced a stepped effect on the opposite side and top portion of each

The central dome seems to be a little off centre

1/8 (3.175 mm) ball nose 2 flute up cut

3 The engraved dog face would have cut fully across the dome but for the stepping issue, but did have material removed that the software said would remain

I think that the dome should have a lower angle on it

Removing some if the image clutter might help with the unwanted material loss

V Bit 30 degree –(1/4 - 6.35mm) Ooznest call this a calibration bit?

4 The names seemed to be fine just a little too deep

V Bit 30 degree –(1/4 - 6.35mm) Ooznest call this a calibration bit?

5 The holes did not go all the way through

1/8 (3.15mm) end mill 2 flute up cut

6 The final cut out went through in places but not in others possibly the wood not being quite level

1/8 (3.15mm) end mill 2 flute up cut

All the bits are from Ooznest starter set

Rigidity problems on the 1500x1500 workbee solved

This isn't a question, but I figured this might be useful to others, and maybe some useful feedback for ooznest. I've always had big problems with rigidity on the 1500x1500 workbee - I upgraded it with a linear rail kit and beefier side plates, which made a bit of a difference, but I would still get terrible chatter because of the X axis twisting.

I finally decided to just do something about it and added a 800x800x3 mm aluminium box section to the back of my X axis, and my problems have now completely disappeared. I was previously limited to using 3.5mm endmills because anything larger would result in extreme amounts of chatter and vibration, now I can easily take 5mm passes in birch plywood with a 6mm compression bit.

This probably isn't terribly useful for people with a stock workbee, as it's not possible to add an extra extrusion to the back of the X axis with the stock V wheels, but maybe it still helps someone else!
