You cannot use a 6mm endmill with a 1/4” collet. The endmill size must always match the size of the collet, as you run the risk of the endmill falling out.

You will need different size Collets to be able to use different size bits. The most popular size is 1/4” but they can be purchased in both Metric and Imperial sizes to be compatible with a wide range routers and endmills.

Collets are used in routers to hold the cutting bits in place. The collet is secured to the tool using a hexagonal collet nut, allowing it to be tightened or loosened to the motor.
