Slicing through 7mm Softwood

Hi All, I have a Ooznest bought 1/8" shank, 1/8" Diameter, 2 flute Amana Wood Straight flute end mill.

I want to cut through 7mm of softwood, pretty much at the fastest speed possible, please could you recommend a starting point with regards to feedrate (mm)?, I am cutting in straight lines, example:

-X215 (mm)

Y9

X215

Y9

repeat, repeat

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Thanks for your message. If the material is very soft, that could be feasible.

The machine does have a max speed limited of 2500mm/min. So I would set it to that, and actually just start off at a lower pass depth, and increase that, to cut it quicker, rather than the feedrate.

I appreciate i'm answering my own question to a point here!:

I went on to Amana Tool Website and found there feed rate sheet, so for my tool (45199) it was listed as (IPM) 110"/0,0031, for softwood.

To calculate Feed rate in IPM, the calculation given was - RPM x #flutes x chipload, so my calculation was 22000 RPM (no 3 setting on the workbee router head) x 2 (number of flutes) x0.0031, =Feed rate in IPM = 136.4.

A quick google conversion gave me 3464 mm/min.

I don't think i am going to start at this level of feed rate, it does seem very fast to me, however I am a newbie and I don't want to break things, so I do ask if this feed rate seems plausible?
