Getting an uneven bottom section on large pockets

This has happened a few times now but unfortunately this time it matters!
The uneven bottom section looks as if it could have been caused by the tool slipping down over time but it definitely isn’t because it doesn’t get consistently lower as you would expect…the two examples here are a vcarve with clearance pass and a basic large pocket, both to around 6mm depth I think. You can see the tool path pattern and irregular height fairly easily in these photos…

any ideas?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your question.

What endmill are you using (Upcut, downcut, compression)? What RPM, Feedrate, and pass depth?

Can I also get a copy of the G-Code file?

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your response. I'm hoping that your help might also explain why the deference between the clearance tool and the finishing pass is so poor, all the bottom corners have a 1-2mm ridge around them which needs sanding off as well...same cause perhaps? ````

I’m afraid I’m still too green at this to know where all the information you are asking for is!

The tool is an Amana 46170-k 1/4” compression bit

The router (Makita) is set to 3 (does this answer the RPM question?)

I’m a bit embarrassed to say I can’t see the feed rate and pass depth…! (I thought I had asked it to have a 6mm finish depth but its more like 8mm…I did use the touch probe…)

Can I email you the gcode? It won’t seem to attach…!

@dan Thanks for your message. I see you are using a compression bit, which is quite an advanced endmill to use. Do you have a normal upcut or downcut endmill to use? Yes if you can email it to sales@ooznest.co.uk can you also send your CAM program too? Robert
