Minor Versionm

Introduction

Please read before proceeding to avoid damaging the controller and voiding your warranty

  1. Avoid connecting the Duet via USB when you do not need to. (Except when instructed to in the guides)
  2. Always unplug the WorkBee Power Supply before connecting the USB Cable.
  1. Open the Control Panel on your windows computer. Click 'Network and Internet'. Open the 'Network and Sharing Center' and click 'Change Adaptor Settings'.
    • Open the Control Panel on your windows computer.

    • Click 'Network and Internet'.

    • Open the 'Network and Sharing Center' and click 'Change Adaptor Settings'.

    • Right Click on the Ethernet Port and click 'Properties'.

    • For Mac users goto System Preferences > Network. Select 'Ethernet' from the left pane.

I would suggest adding to this guide a section about connecting the workbee to a router or switch and the process of manually assigning an IP address (either static or dynamic) in the config.g file. It’s much easier to do it that way, the web control connects easily and if the router has wi-fi it becomes possible to connect to the machine using either ethernet or wi-fi and internet access is still available.

    • Click on 'Internet Protocol Version 4' so it is highlighted. Then press the 'Properties' button.

    • Select 'Use the following IP address'

    • For Mac users change the 'Configure IPv4' dropdown to 'Manually'

    • Enter the following IP Addresses

    • IP Address: 192.168.251.1

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Default gateway: 192.168.251.0

    • For Mac users set Router: 192.168.251.0

  3. Plug the Ethernet Cable into the Ethernet port on the Duet Controller. Plug the opposite end into the Ethernet port on your computer.
    • Plug the Ethernet Cable into the Ethernet port on the Duet Controller. Plug the opposite end into the Ethernet port on your computer.

    • Plug the mains cable of the Power Supply into the wall socket.

    • Turn on the wall socket and the power switch on the side of the Power Supply.

    • Open your browser and enter the url: http://workbee.local/

    • You should now see the WorkBee Control Interface!

    • Bookmark the url and add it to your favourites for easier access in the future.

    • If the above url does not work. Please use the IP Address 192.168.251.2 to connect to the machine. Bookmark this IP Address.

I found this too, but then I’m completely non-PC having spent 35 years with Macs. I’m using a Windows machine for my Workbee and found that it only connected once you’d closed the control panel windows down then Ethernet 2 states ‘Unidentified network’ which is the Duet. Mine works fine now.

Neither IP address seems to work just returns IP address could not be found. Any further troubleshooting advice would be appreciated

Hi Sean, Thanks for your message - Can you check that the SD Card is mounted correctly on the back of the controller and the IP Adaptor settings match the above steps, If you are still having issues please reach out via this link - https://ooznest.co.uk/help/#tab_technica...

Hi Richard, this guide is for a V2.3 WorkBee, just want to check, this is the version you have?

Robert -

Hi, this all works splendidly and I got my Workbee connected first time. However, I think this article should really be entitled “Connecting your Duet to a Windows PC or Mac using Ethernet”. I am looking for an article on how to connect the Duet via Ethernet to a router, so it can be accessed across the local network.
