Hi Pete, It sounds like the machine may not have the correct size set in the firmware. Please check this step in our guide: Step 3 – Set Machine Size — it’s easy to miss during setup. If you've already done that and the issue continues, feel free to reach out to us directly at ooznest.co.uk/help and we’ll be happy to assist!
Hi Ralph, Mounting 2 vertical 20x60 extrusions onto 20x20 horizontals with free-moving gantry plates is absolutely doable. To help you choose the right gantry carriages, we’d need a bit more info—like where you want the carriages positioned and how they’ll be used—so we can recommend the best option. Please send us a rough sketch of your project at help@ooznest.co.uk As for locking them in place, you can use sliding extrusion nuts in the slot with M5 screws and aluminum spacers to build a simple stop. While we don’t currently stock hand-operated knobs, you might find “M5 knobs” with threaded studs from local or online hardware suppliers, which would replace the M5 screws for easy manual adjustment. I hope this helps and looking forward to hearing from you!
Hi Ted! Yes, you need to factor in post-processing. The Duet Controller uses RepRapFirmware, which requires G-code with full modal commands on every line (e.g., G1 X... Y... Z...). FreeCAD may not have a built-in Duet-compatible post processor, so check the FreeCAD forums or consider using another CAM tool to generate compatible G-code. Learn more here: http://docs.duet3d.com/User_manual/Machi... I hope this helps but let me know if you have additional questions.
Hi Phil, Thanks for reaching out. Based on your description, it seems the Z-axis limit switch might not be functioning correctly. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot: (1) Check Limit Switch Status: In WorkBee Web Control, navigate to Settings > Machine Specific > Sensors. Manually press and hold the Z-axis limit switch. The status should change to 'Triggered'. If it doesn't, the switch may be faulty. (2) Inspect for Debris: Sometimes, dust or debris can prevent the switch from operating correctly. Clean the switch thoroughly and test it again. (3) Verify Wiring: Ensure the limit switch wiring is correctly connected and not damaged. Refer to the wiring diagrams in the assembly manual for guidance. (4) Test the Switch: If after cleaning and checking the wiring the switch still doesn't respond, it might need to be replaced. If you've gone through these steps and the issue persists, please contact our technical support team at https://ooznest.co.uk/help/ so we can better assist you.
Hi Josh! It sounds like your machine is out of square. Even if the X and Y gantries seem perpendicular, the overall frame or gantry may still be skewed. Double-check that the frame is square by measuring diagonals, and ensure the gantry is equally spaced on both sides when moved front to back. Also check for any mechanical play, calibrate your steps/mm, and make sure your spindle is trammed correctly. These are the most common causes of inaccurate or out-of-square cuts. If you need further help, please reach out to us at https://ooznest.co.uk/help/ so we can better assist you.
Hi Robert, Your workflow is solid! Roughing with a flat endmill and finishing with a ball-end is standard. If you want more detail, consider adding extra finishing passes with gradually smaller ball-end bits. Avoid v-bits for finishing as they’re meant for engraving. Instead, look into tapered ball-end mills, they’re stronger and great for fine detail without breaking easily. If you're finding smaller bits are breaking, consider adding an intermediate finishing pass with a slightly larger ball-end bit (e.g., 4mm). That way, the final small bit only needs to handle the fine detail, not heavier cleanup, which can cause breakage. Hope that helps refine your process! Let us know if you anything else.
Hi Thomas! Yes, we do recommend using a USB to Ethernet Adaptor. We sell one here: https://ooznest.co.uk/product/original-workbee-usb-to-ethernet-adaptor/ I hope this helps!
Hi Rachel, It sounds like your Z-axis is hitting machine limits during probing. I appreciate your efforts in trying to troubleshoot the issue and providing details about the issues you're having. I'd highly recommend reaching out to our technical support team for proper resolution at https://ooznest.co.uk/help/. We look forward to sorting this out for you!
Hi Phil, It sounds like your Z-axis may have a slight wobble that's affecting your cut level. Since you've already checked that screws are tight, ensure that the X-axis extrusion is properly aligned and that the gantry plates are square. Misalignment can cause uneven cutting depths. Also, confirm that the Makita router is securely mounted and that there is no play in the spindle mount. We don't see a video attachment here, but after performing these checks and you're still having problems, kindly reach our technical support team at https://ooznest.co.uk/help/.
